Subutex 2007

The Subutex leaflet was originally a commission for a regional prison service. Subutex is a synthetic opioid agonist, while Suboxone is an opioid agonist/antagonist. Both are used in the treatment of heroin addiction. Subutex and Suboxone (‘Subbies’) were prescribed in prison for heroin treatment and subsequently became widely used/abused across the prison estate. This is the ‘straight’ leaflet that was both used for the commission and purchased by the national prison service for every prisoner in the country. However, the concept of agonist/antagonist drugs is complex, there was another version of this leaflet that employed a metaphor to explain this drugs action, which was perhaps not so ‘straight’. ‘The Tart, the Mermaid, the Cockfish and the Subutex’
